What's Drew Doing?

Drew is changing daily and because it happens so fast, I wanted to make sure I did a post that documents what he is currently doing. So, here goes! I'll start with the sweetest one first...

- After his bath, Andy comes in to Drew's room and tells him goodnight while I'm putting on pj's and getting a story ready. This week, Drew has started saying "i love you, daddy" as Andy leaves the room... ahhh... sweetest thing ever. It sounds like "i wee-ii, daddy" and he says it with a huge grin. I got one this morning for the first time when they were leaving for school "i wee-ii mommy". Best thing ever.

- He has started giving "knuckles"... aka fist bumps. He gives us one and says "nuh-toos".

- He is obsessed with his shoes and can put them on by himself. He refuses help most of the time. His teacher posted a cute pic on instagram, where he successfully put his own shoes on and said "i di yi".

- He is still really in to cleaning. Specifically sweeping. He has his own cleaning kit at home and a miniature broom that Poppy bought him - he loves it.
- When I am in another room and he sees me, he will run towards me saying "mommy, mommy" in a super sweet, singing voice with his arms in the air. Gets me every time. (I know every child does this, but it's one of my favorite things)

- His favorite book right now is Green Eggs and Ham or "Saucer Seuss". This has been his "go to" bed time book over the last week. Tonight, while I was reading it and would get to one of the many questions, he would say "yes" every time. Me: "Would you like them with a fox?" Drew: "yes" - through the entire book. Pretty cute.

- Speaking of "yes"... he says all versions of yes. And that is usually his answer when asked a yes/no question. Yep, yeah, uh huh, yes, mmhmm. When he says yep, he puts a big sigh on the end of it.. yep-aahh.

- He has had a few more successful potty trips. We had a spell where he would be pulling his pants down and saying "pee pee", while he was going in his diaper. So by the time we got to the potty, it was too late. He still likes to sit and if we time it right, he does good! The only time we are consistently taking him right now is right before we go upstairs to do bath/bedtime. Still not convinced he's 100% ready and I plan to get more serious about it in a few months. He likes to pull up his pants when he's finished. He has the front part figured out, but he does not understand how to get them all the way up in the back. I have some hilarious pictures of that, but didn't know if Drew would appreciate me showing his hiney on here.

- He will count with us to 19. Most of the bigger numbers are not very clear, but he is definitely mocking the pattern of the word with us. We count the stairs when we walk up them and those numbers are getting more and more pronounced. He specifically likes 8 and 9 lately. If he doesn't want to repeat us, he will just say one of those numbers over and over. I made some flash cards for 0-10 and he did an awesome job recognizing those numbers. Especially 0-5 and 9 of course. Hearing him say zero is hilarious. It is very drug out and has a pitch change at the end.

- He recognizes and makes the sound to a hand full of letters. He can find most of the letters we ask him to, but specifically makes the sound for the M, T, S, B, A and H. This is something they are doing at school. They teach them the sound before they teach them the actual letter. I've been doing both at home.

- He has started singing quite a bit lately. We can hear the tune to Twinkle Twinkle, Baa Baa Black Sheep, Jesus Loves Me and the alphabet song. He really likes the "up above" part of Twinkle Twinkle and is very exaggerated in his pronunciation there. The alphabet song is very choppy, but when we start singing a, b... he jumps in with c... then gets to lmnop and we hear "mina mina p".

- Has recently developed a love for Mickey Mouse or "Mo Mo". This is the first actual TV show I think we can say he prefers. He says "oh toodles" and "hot dog" when it comes on. He gets the biggest smile when he hears the song and immediately starts bobbing his little head.

- Still a great sleeper, but fights naps with me. Things go much smoother with Andy. One day, it was just him and me here and I was trying to get him down for his nap and he fought and fought. I finally decided I was going to play hard ball and just let him stay in there and eventually lay down. So I closed his door and came downstairs... looked at the monitor and only saw one foot! He had climbed to the top of his rail. By the time I got up there, he had plopped back down in his bed thank goodness. That is the only time he has done that, so hopefully it's not a new thing. Since he is upstairs, I'm a little gun shy in transitioning to a toddler bed right now.

- He has figured out if he tells us "hurt", we will really pay special attention to it. We are going to have to start figuring out what's actually real a lot faster than we do now! One day this week, everything hurt. His shoes, his leg (which did have a scrape) and his elbow. He even forced his pinky finger to cross over his ring finger, held it up to me and said "hurts". Clever.

- He knows all of his main body parts - eyes, ears, mouth, nose, elbow, shoulder, knees, toes, hands, head - and practices them often. He has really been interested in his elbow this week. That's another word he really drags out... elbooow.

- One of his favorite things to do right now is read. He loves a good book. He will say "read the book" when he brings it to you and as soon as he knows you're at the end, he says "read the book" again.

- He is still a worker and loves to take things apart and put them back together. He is a huge puzzle fan.

- He has started helping us feed Duke, which is the perfect little chore for him. He loves Duke and he loves being able to use the scoop to give him his food!

He amazes us every day and we couldn't be more proud. I know this was a lot, but I still feel like I'm leaving some things out. I really need to get better at writing these fun little stories down. If Drew were sitting with me right this minute, I'm sure I would get a big "yep-ahhh" on that one!

Family packed weekend

Last weekend, our agenda was family packed! We kicked off my side of the family's annual reunion at Cracker Barrel on Friday night, then went to the actual reunion on Saturday morning. Tim, Dessa and the kids were in town for the weekend as well and we went to a cookout at Andy's mom's house that night. Drew had a big weekend!

Playing checkers and rocking with the family at Cracker Barrel...
Drew dog pile Saturday morning with Aunt Dess and the girls...
Ready for the family reunion...
Taking a break and snacking at the reunion...
Shopping with the girls...
Drew and Cassie found a Locust bug...
Learning from Uncle Tim...
Andy smoked chicken wings, and this family loves chicken wings...
Taking a walk with Great-Granny Dotson.
Impromptu FroYo stop with the girls. We decided it would be a tradition...
This big weekend made for some tired boys. Still learning from Uncle Tim...
 We love family weekends!

Razorback!

Two reasons for this cute video. Drew's laugh and hearing him say Razorback. He is too cool.
